FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
- Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
- No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
- Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
- Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.
Product information "BRESSER Science ETD-301 7-63x trinocular zoom stereo microscope with MikroCam PRO HDMI autofocus microscope camera and Full HD MINI HDMI display (13.3")"
The microscope in detail
The BRESSER Science ETD-301 is a stereo microscope for incident and transmitted illumination with high-quality optics.
It is suitable for use in medicine, agriculture and forestry, forensics, scientific research institutes and schools, as well as for assembly and inspection of small components in precision engineering and electronics.
The especially wide base with specimen stage allows for observation of larger objects. The maximum object height is approx. 85 mm. The large working distance of 100 mm allows for tool use, e.g. for sample preparation or dissection, measurement or inspection.
The instrument features LED incident and transmitted illumination, which can be used individually or combined, and are each continuously dimmable. The incident light angle is particularly user-friendly to adjust. With interchangeable wide-field eyepieces (WF10x) and a 9x stereo zoom objective (0.7x – 6.3x), a continuous magnification range from 7x to 63x is achieved.
Coarse and fine focusing allows precise sharpness adjustment, especially at high magnifications and for photography.
Interpupillary distance and dioptre compensation are individually adjustable. The trinocular microscope head rotates 360° and features two 45° inclined eyepiece tubes.
The trinocular tube can accommodate a DSLR / mirrorless camera (APS-C or DX format) or a C-mount camera (sensor size up to 1'') via an optional adapter. A switch redirects the optical path from one eyepiece to the camera. This provides 50% of the light, more than with microscopes with a permanent beam splitter.
To connect a DSLR / mirrorless camera, adapter part no. 5942100 and a camera-specific T2 ring are required.
A C-mount camera connects using adapter part no. 5942101.

The BRESSER MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus impresses with excellent image quality and user-friendly operation. It delivers the microscope image live and without delay as a HDMI signal in Full HD resolution to a monitor or TV. An optional 11" HDMI monitor (part no. 5914110) can be mounted directly to the camera and provides brilliant and high-contrast images. Thanks to its very high light sensitivity, excellent image quality is achieved even in low light conditions. This model is therefore particularly suitable for darkfield or phase contrast applications.
The autofocus enables optimal camera focusing without using the microscope’s focus knobs. This ensures parfocality on various trinocular microscopes. The focusing range starts at the 0 position (C-mount distance), extends forward by 5.4 mm (CS-mount), and up to 10.6 mm inward to cover an even wider range. In addition to autofocus, the camera can also be focused manually using a mouse. A specific focus area can also be targeted.
Camera functions are controlled via mouse using the on-screen menu. Measurements can also be performed via the menu, making the MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus a full-fledged digital measurement microscope.
The MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus offers multiple applications, including:
- Documentation
- Evaluation
- Analysis
- Presentation
- Quality control
- Automation
- Machine vision
Additionally, the camera can transmit the microscope image wirelessly via Wi-Fi module. When connected via HDMI, images and videos can be saved directly to an SD card (not included). A USB connection to a PC is not supported in this model. For that, we recommend the MikroCam PRO HDMI 5914180.
FEATURES
- HDMI output for monitor or TV
- Brilliant Full HD output via HDMI (60 fps) or Wi-Fi (up to 25 fps)
- Measurement function via on-screen menu (*calibration with object micrometre, part no. 5916720, required)
- Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) function
- Storage of images and videos on SD card (up to 32 GB, not included)
- Wide focus range: -5.4 mm to 0 (C-mount distance) to +10.6 mm
- 1/4" tripod thread, e.g. for photo tripod
- C-mount thread: easy to adapt, also suitable for C-mount lenses

The monitor in detail
The Full HD monitor is the ideal companion for the BRESSER MikroCam PRO HDMI and MINI HDMI
The monitor can be mounted directly to the camera using the adjustable bracket. It delivers brilliant, artefact-free images because the display matches the camera’s output resolution. Using the MikroCam and HDMI monitor set, almost any trinocular microscope with camera port can be upgraded to a digital microscope. Observation can therefore take place without a PC.
The screen size is optimally chosen so that the user can observe through the microscope as usual while simultaneously viewing the image on the monitor. The monitor delivers optimal image quality with a wide 178° viewing angle, making it possible for several people to view the image without quality loss.
The microscope camera’s image is shown on the HDMI monitor without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. HDMI-based display is usually of better quality than USB camera use on a laptop or PC. This is especially beneficial for tasks performed under microscopic control.
Many users also benefit from the improved ergonomics offered by viewing on an HDMI screen. Higher magnifications with high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for users with vision problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can offer relief here.
The monitor can be powered via the same power supply as the camera using the included Y-cable. A matching short angled HDMI cable is also included to avoid cable clutter at the workstation. Mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tool are included.
