FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:
 
  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Blank Slide with 1/100 mm scale
Blank slides with 1/100 mm scale for your microscope are meant for calibration of measurements. They are used together with eyepiece micrometers or a measuring software (for cameras) to measure samples. This slide is suitable for biological microscopes or reflected light microscopes with high magnification (e.g. metallurgical microscopes). The BRESSER reduction lens 1x variable is used to shift the focal point of the camera. The image section of the camera can also be varied slightly.
