FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:
 
  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

This crosshair micrometer eyepiece enables the measurement of a specimen. The crossed scale facilitates horizontal and vertical measurement without rotating the eyepiece. For optimal visibility, the crosshair is focusable. The barrel diameter is 30 mm, allowing for a large field of view of 22 mm. An additional micrometer slide is required for calibration. Two different measuring slides are available: A measuring scale (Item No. 5916710): 1 mm, divided into 0.01 mm increments. It fits microscopes with a 23.2mm trinocular tube (e.g. Advance ICD, Researcher Trino), or eyepiece tube with the same diameter (e.g. Erudit DLX, Researcher Bino).This adapter is already included with the MikroCam SP and MikroCamII series. Capture 4K video with the BRESSER MikroCamII 9MP 4K microscope camera. The video can be up to 30 fps depending on the PC used. The camera uses a global shutter, which captures moving objects without distortion. The big image sensor (14.13 x 7.45mm) captures a big field of view. The high light sensitivity of the Sony® IMX305 CMOS-sensor produces excellent images even when using darkfield or phase contrast.The BRESSER MikroCamLabII software includes a variety of useful functions, e.g. measuring in live mode (optional calibration slide needed), mosaic/stitching, focus stacking (for extended depth of field). All camera parameters (exposure time, gain, white balance) can be set manually.Mosaic and focus stacking can be done in live mode, which gives instant results even for unexperienced users. The method is also much faster than the normal procedure where a set of images is rendered afterwards. This allows for large image fields to be captured. Depending on the microscope model, for example, the eyepiece field of view can be fully documented with this camera (for a 10x eyepiece / 22mm). Other cameras often capture less than 50% of the eyepiece field of view.The Sony IMX183 CMOS sensor has extremely low noise at high light sensitivity, making this camera also excellent for dark field or phase contrast shots.The MikroCam Lab II software offers a variety of different functions, such as measurement in live image (calibration specimen required), mosaic image creation, focus stacking (for increased depth of field). All automatic functions (exposure time, sensitivity, white balance, etc.) can also be set manually.Due to the large sensor, the camera is not optimally suitable for every microscope.
