FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Set Microscope Slides
Slides and cover glasses are an indispensable accessory which has also impact on the image quality. For most biological microscopes, the cover glass thickness is an important optical parameter, which is therefore included in the optical design and, if so, printed on the sleeve of every objective. You can usually see the number 0.17 which is the thickness in millimeters. For demanding applications in the laboratory, or for microphotography, using cover glasses with the desired thickness and high quality is necessary. The cover glasses included in the set are made of Boro 3.3 glass and are standardized to a thickness of 0.16-0.19mm. So they match the desired 0.17mm really good and give the best possible image quality. These Boro 3.3 cover glasses are pure white, without streaks and are pre-cleaned and ready to use. They are also especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy. The slides are made of soda lime glass, and have ground edges for safe handling. They have a matte field for writing on both sides (top and bottom). Slides and cover glasses are packed separately and in a vacuum sealed bag, containing moisture absorbent. They can be stored for a long time without loss of quality from hydrolysis and are easy to take out.

BRESSER Microscope Science MTL 201 50-800x with MikroCam PRO HDMI 5MP Microscope Camera and Full HD HDMI Display (13.3")
The well-designed combo set with the professional Science MTL-201 microscope and the high-resolution MikroCam PRO HDMI 5MP, together with the 13.3" monitor, offers a powerful complete solution for precise metallurgical examinations and diverse laboratory applications. The direct image transmission to the monitor enables comfortable live observation, vivid presentations, and efficient documentation - ideal for research and quality assurance. The Microscope in DetailThe BRESSER Science MTL 201 is a specialised reflected light microscope that allows the observation of non-transparent surfaces at higher magnifications (50x-800x). Ideal fields of application for this very solidly manufactured instrument include metallography (e.g. polished sections of metals and alloys), mineralogy, precision mechanics, electronics, and the semiconductor industry; it is suitable for scientific research and teaching as well as industrial production (e.g. quality control). According to its purpose, the MTL 201 features a very large stage (250 mm x 230 mm), which can be roughly moved with a handle and finely adjusted with cross and longitudinal drives. For perfect focusing, coarse and fine focus (coaxial; approx. 70 µm/turn) are available. The reflected light illumination is provided by a halogen bulb (20 W) with adjustable light intensity through the objective. A centring field diaphragm, a selection of filters (yellow, green, blue, matte), and a polariser/analyser combination are available to the observer. The five-position turret is equipped with planachromatic DIN objectives (5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 80x). The trinocular microscope head carries the eyepiece tubes inclined at 30° and the photo tube. The widefield eyepieces (WF10x) are adjustable for eye distance and dioptre difference. The photo tube allows digital image capture, e.g. via an optionally available PC eyepiece. Additional optional accessories: eyepiece (WF16x), measuring eyepiece (WF10x), planachromatic objective (50x).The BRESSER Science MTL 201 is a specialised reflected light microscope that enables surface examinations of metals or plastics. It is therefore excellently suited for quality testing or tissue examination.MICROSCOPE SCOPE OF DELIVERYMicroscopeEyepieces (2 pieces WF 10x)Objectives (5x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 80x)Coaxial cross tableColour filters (green, blue, yellow, matte)Dust coverPower cableThe Microscope Camera in DetailThe BRESSER MikroCam PRO HDMI 5MP impresses with its excellent image quality combined with user-friendly operation. It delivers the microscope image live and without delay as an HDMI signal with Full HD resolution to a monitor or television. An optional 11'' HDMI monitor (Art. No. 5914110) can be mounted directly on the camera and provides brilliant and high-contrast images. For high-resolution microphotos, this camera features a high-quality Sony 5MP sensor, allowing images and videos to be saved on an SD card at resolutions higher than Full HD.The camera functions are operated via mouse directly on the on-screen menu. Measurements can now also be performed via the on-screen menu, turning your microscope with the MikroCam Pro HDMI 5MP into a fully-fledged digital measuring microscope.Additionally, the camera can provide the microscope view in a wireless network via a WiFi module. However, a USB connection to a PC is no longer provided with this model. For this, we recommend the MikroCam Pro HDMI 5914180 model. The professional MikroCamLabII software is still included, allowing images to be edited and analysed afterwards.Image Analysis Software Included in the Following Languages(no direct image capture via USB possible)GermanEnglishFrenchPolishTurkishIndonesianJapaneseChinese (Simplified)Chinese (Traditional)The software offers numerous functions for image processingMeasurement function (additional stage micrometer required e.g. Bresser article no. 5916720): distances, angles, areas (polygon, circles, ellipses)Image stacking from video filesFluorescence microscopy: data for numerous fluorophores are stored in the softwareBatch savingHDR (High Dynamic Range)MICROSCOPE CAMERA FEATURESHDMI connection for monitor or TVBrilliant image reproduction in Full HD via HDMI (60 frames/sec) or WiFi (up to 25 frames/sec)Measurement function via on-screen menu (stage micrometer Art. The screen delivers brilliant images without artefacts, as the display has the same resolution as the camera's output image. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows observation independently of a PC.The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can continue to use the microscope as usual and simultaneously view the image on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a wide viewing angle of 178°! This allows several people to view the image without loss of quality. The microscope camera image is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. Display via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is especially advantageous when working under microscopic control. Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when viewing the image on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters (vitreous opacities). Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable short, angled HDMI cable is also included, so cable clutter at the workplace is avoided. Mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included.DISPLAY FEATURES16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixelsActive area: 16.5 x 29.4 cmEasy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINIWide viewing angle (178°)No separate power supply necessarySCOPE OF DELIVERY13.3" displayHDMI cableY-cable for power supply via camera power supplyMounting screws (2 pieces)Allen keyOperating instructions

It delivers the microscope image live and without delay as an HDMI signal with Full HD resolution to a monitor or TV. An optional 11'' HDMI monitor (Art. No. 5914110) can be directly mounted on the camera, providing brilliant and high-contrast images. Due to its very high light sensitivity, good image quality is ensured even in low light. This model is especially recommended for dark field or phase contrast. The autofocus allows for optimal focusing of the camera without using the microscope's focusing wheels. This ensures parfocality on various trinocular microscopes. The focusable range extends from the 0 position, corresponding to the C-Mount distance, through a maximum forward focus of 5.4 mm, thus also reaching the CS-Mount distance, and additionally up to 10.6 mm inward to cover an even larger range. Besides autofocus, the camera can also be manually focused using a mouse. Focus adjustment to a specific area is also possible. The operation of the camera functions is done via mouse directly on the on-screen menu. Measurements can be performed through the on-screen menu, turning your microscope with the MikroCam Pro HDMI Autofocus into a fully functional digital measuring microscope. The MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus offers a variety of applications, including:DocumentationEvaluationAnalysisPresentationQuality controlAutomationMachine visionThus, the MikroCam PRO Autofocus is excellently suited as an industrial camera with a very good price-performance ratio.Additionally, the camera can also provide the microscope view in a wireless network via a WiFi module. When connected via HDMI, images and videos can be recorded directly on an SD card (not included). However, a connection to a PC via USB is no longer provided for this model. For this, we recommend the MikroCam Pro HDMI model 5914180.FEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERAHDMI connection for monitor or TVBrilliant image reproduction in Full HD via HDMI (60 frames/sec) or WiFi (up to 25 frames/sec)Measurement function via on-screen menu (*Object micrometer Art. The screen delivers brilliant images without artifacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows observation independently of a PC.The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can microscope as usual while simultaneously viewing the image on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a large viewing angle of 178°! Thus, multiple people can view the image without loss of quality. The image from the microscope camera is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The representation via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when work under microscopic control is to be carried out. Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture are uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable, short, angled HDMI cable is also included, preventing cable clutter at the workplace. The mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included in the delivery.FEATURES OF THE DISPLAY16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixelsActive area: 16.5 x 29.4 cmEasy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINILarge viewing angle (178°)No separate power supply neededSCOPE OF DELIVERY13.3" displayHDMI cableY-cable for power supply via camera power supplyMounting screws (2 pieces)Hex keyUser manual
